omega
History
The Omega brand, one of the most famous and respected watch brands in the world, was founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in the Swiss town of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Brandt originally produced pocket watches in a small workshop and sold them through a network of dealers in Europe. After his death in 1879, his sons Louis-Paul and César took over the company and moved it to Biel/Bienne, where it is still based today.
The name Omega was first used in 1894, when the Brandt brothers developed a revolutionary movement that set new standards in precision and reliability. This caliber was given the name "Omega", which became synonymous with the highest level of watchmaking and eventually became the name of the entire company.
Throughout the 20th century, Omega gained worldwide recognition for its numerous technical innovations and its role in significant historical events. One of Omega's most famous achievements was the introduction of the first wristwatch with a coaxial escapement system, which greatly improved the accuracy and durability of the watches.
Omega watches have been selected by NASA on several occasions and have been given the title of "official watch of the space agency". The Omega Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon and played a crucial role in saving the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. This connection to space travel underlines the precision and reliability of the brand.
In addition to its connection to space travel, Omega is also known for its sporting achievements. Omega has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932 and has made a significant contribution to the development of modern timekeeping systems.
Today, Omega represents a perfect combination of tradition and innovation. Iconic models such as the Seamaster, Speedmaster and Constellation are highly sought after by watch lovers and collectors around the world. Omega remains one of the leading manufacturers in the luxury watch industry and continues to set standards in terms of precision, design and technological advancement.
